Trump Says Iran Talks May Resume as Diplomacy Pressures Build Across Middle East

Fresh signals suggest that stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran could resume within days, even after earlier talks ended without a breakthrough. The developments come amid heightened regional tensions and continued pressure over nuclear and security disputes.

US President Donald Trump indicated that discussions may restart soon, possibly in Pakistan, after initial negotiations collapsed during a marathon session in Islamabad. He suggested that backchannel communication is still active. “Something could be happening over the next two days,” he said, hinting that both sides may not be fully locked out of dialogue despite the setback.

The talks previously broke down over deep disagreements on Iran’s nuclear programme and the scope of any long-term restrictions. Washington has pushed for strict limits on enrichment activity, while Tehran has insisted on maintaining what it calls its sovereign right to nuclear energy development.

Even so, diplomatic momentum has not fully stalled. Regional mediators, including Pakistan, are reportedly working to bring both sides back to the table. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also said it is “highly probable” that negotiations will restart, stressing the need for continued engagement to prevent further escalation.

The situation remains fragile, with military pressure and economic measures continuing alongside diplomacy. A naval blockade and tightened sanctions have increased strain on Iran’s economy, while raising global concerns over energy supply stability and maritime security in key waterways.

Despite the tensions, analysts say the willingness to even consider another round of talks signals that neither side is ready to abandon diplomacy completely. However, major gaps remain on core issues, meaning any resumed negotiations are likely to be difficult and uncertain.

For now, the world is watching closely as both pressure and possibility grow in parallel—keeping Iran talks firmly on the brink of either collapse or cautious return.
