A fresh political storm is brewing after Orange Democratic Movement leader Oburu Odinga threatened legal action over claims that he has been compromised by the State. The remarks come amid rising political tension and public accusations that have put the party’s position under scrutiny.

Speaking at an ODM youth convention in Nairobi, Oburu dismissed the allegations and vowed to take his accusers to court. He maintained that the claims were baseless and meant to damage his reputation. “I will take him to court to explain how much Oburu has been bought for. I cannot be bought,” he said firmly.
The statement is seen as a direct response to remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has repeatedly alleged that ODM leaders have aligned themselves with President William Ruto. Although Oburu did not mention him by name, the context of the dispute points to ongoing political exchanges between the two sides.
Oburu also defended ODM’s political direction, saying the party’s decisions are strategic and aimed at strengthening its future. He rejected claims that ODM has been weakened or absorbed by other political forces.
“Our party will grow from strength to strength. It is too big to be swallowed. If you try to swallow it your stomach will burst,” he said, projecting confidence in the party’s influence.
He further downplayed criticism from opponents, insisting that the party remains focused on its goals despite the noise. “I do not want to talk about our opponents. They can say whatever they want to say but we are moving forward,” he added.
The unfolding dispute highlights growing cracks within Kenya’s political landscape as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. With legal threats now entering the scene, the confrontation is likely to escalate further.
