Kenya’s Internet Race Shifts: Faiba Surges Ahead as Rivals Chase Speed and Stability

Kenya’s fixed internet market is entering a new phase. The latest report by nPerf shows a clear shift in performance leadership, with Faiba widening the gap over its competitors. The data, covering April 2025 to March 2026, reflects real user experiences, not marketing claims.

Faiba delivered a standout performance across nearly all categories. It recorded an overall score of 67,150 points, a sharp rise from the previous year. Its download speeds jumped to 62.68 Mbps, nearly doubling in just 12 months. Upload speeds also climbed to 44.42 Mbps. This marks the first time the provider has dominated almost every key metric in a single cycle. As one analysis notes, “that is not incremental improvement,” but a sign of serious infrastructure investment.

In second place, VGG Connect stood out for a different reason. It posted the lowest latency in the market at 14.20 milliseconds, maintaining a five-year streak. This makes it ideal for activities like gaming and video calls. However, its slower download and upload speeds limited its overall ranking.

Safaricom, despite its massive customer base, came in third. It showed steady growth, especially in upload speeds and streaming quality. But it still trails in overall performance. The report highlights a key contrast: strong market presence does not always equal top technical performance.

Zuku ranked fourth, boosted by improved download speeds, while Airtel Kenya finished fifth. Airtel showed the biggest gain in upload speeds but struggled with high latency.

Overall, the sector is improving. Every provider recorded better performance year-on-year. Still, the biggest story is clear. Faiba is no longer just leading. It is pulling away.
