After much delay, the EMMY Awards were back this year. The world got a new EGOT as well and many new talents got celebrated and recognized. With major films, and TV series, actors, musicians, and actresses getting nominations with stiff competition
Africa was not left behind at the 75th annual Award ceremony that was happening in L.A. South African comedian, Trevor Noah received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series for The Daily Show.
For seven years, The Daily Talk Show was hosted by Trevor Noah before it came to a close back in September 2022. During his speech, Trevor thanked his team and fellow South African TV writer, David Kibuuka and Uganda’s Joseph Opio.
The comedian also thanked his fans, specifically Africans. He said he was grateful for the ‘Africans who followed him to the country’. This marked his second Emmy after he won his first ever Emmy in 2017 for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series for The Daily Show’s “Between The Scene”.
Trevor’s team was nominated for, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Variety Programming. That marks three nominations at the 2023 EMMY Awards.
Elton John was honored with an Emmy Award adding him to the list of the few EGOT winners like Audrey Hepburn. EGOT is an acronym standing for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards and is a rare achievement.
Also shining at the Awards was the TV series Succession. The final season it marked the end of an amazing drama TV show that managed to influence culture. In fashion, the TV series brought the quiet luxury style to the mainstream.
