Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reached out to Pope Leo XIV, seeking prayers for Kenya amid rising political and economic challenges. His message comes at a time when the country is facing growing tension and uncertainty ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his letter, Kalonzo welcomed the Pope to Africa during his first apostolic visit, describing the continent as one of faith and resilience. He praised the pontiff’s leadership and spiritual influence, saying his presence reflects hope and unity. “Africa, a continent of ancient faith, extraordinary resilience, and boundless hope, receives you with profound joy,” he wrote.
However, beyond the welcome message, Kalonzo used the opportunity to highlight Kenya’s current struggles. He appealed directly for prayers, expressing concern over governance and national stability. “I humbly beseech Your Holiness to intercede in prayer on our behalf, that Kenya may be blessed with lasting peace, social harmony, and leaders who govern… for the common good,” he stated.
The appeal reflects growing anxiety within the political space, with opposition leaders increasingly raising concerns over leadership and economic pressures. Kalonzo’s move shifts the conversation beyond politics, framing the country’s challenges as not only political but also moral and spiritual.
He also expressed hope that Kenya could host the Pope in the future, noting the country’s strong ties with the Catholic Church. According to him, such a visit would strengthen faith and unity among citizens.
Kalonzo further praised the Pope’s global message on peace, dignity, and family values, saying many Africans draw inspiration from his leadership. He emphasized solidarity with the Church, adding, “We walk with you in prayer and in solidarity.”
