“Kenyans deserve to know the truth”- Ruth Odinga Blasts Fuel Hike, Questions G-TO-G Deal

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has sharply criticised the government over the latest fuel price increase, describing it as a heavy burden on ordinary Kenyans. Her remarks come after a significant rise in petrol and diesel prices triggered widespread public concern.

In a strongly worded statement, Ruth did not hold back. “Yesterday’s announcement… is a direct assault on the livelihoods of every Kenyan. It is an economic burden,” she said, pointing to the rising cost of transport and basic commodities. She warned that the increase would worsen the already high cost of living.

She also questioned the effectiveness of the government-to-government (G-to-G) oil importation deal, which had been presented as a safeguard against global price shocks. “We were told the G-to-G deal was a ‘shield’… today, that shield has proved to be made of glass,” she said. According to her, the promises made to Kenyans have not matched the reality on the ground.

Ruth further criticised the Ministry of Energy for what she termed as misleading assurances. “It is deeply dishonest for a minister to offer daily assurances of price stability only to preside over the largest single-month hike,” she stated, adding that public trust is now at risk.

She went on to raise concerns about possible hidden interests behind the price increase. “Kenyans deserve to know the truth… has the state succumbed to the greedy whims of opportunistic oil marketers?” she posed, calling for full transparency.

Her remarks have intensified the debate around fuel pricing and accountability, as Kenyans continue to feel the impact of rising costs in their daily lives.
