One of the popular murder trials in Kenya was to receive a verdict on January 26th due to the high-profile individuals involved. The murder of Monica Kimani had former Citizen TV presenter Jacque Maribe and ex-lover Jowie Irungu having to answer to charges and defend themselves.
After a delay from what was supposed to be done on December 2023, it was all eyes on the planned verdict day by Justice Grace Nzioka. However, the judge had to postpone the verdict to March 15th.
This comes after Maribe reportedly fell sick and was unable to attend the court verdict proceedings. Maribe and Jowie were linked to the crime scene according to the prosecution’s narrative of how the brutal murder occurred.
In September 2018, businesswoman Monica Kimani was found dead with her throat slit in her apartment in Nairobi. The case soon got media attention and became a major public scandal that was followed keenly especially due to the main suspects involved.
The case is one for the books and is being followed and awaited keenly by Kenyans on the verdict that will be made later in March this year. The verdict is expected to be one of the most significant legal cases in Kenya’s history.
