Johnson Sakaja is taking activist Jerotich Seii and the Standard Media group to court. The Governor is demanding a huge sum of money for what he claims to be defamation after a morning talk show.
On January 26th, activist Jerotich Seii was the guest on the morning talk show, The Situation Room, hosted by Eric Latiff, Charles Muga, and Ndu Okoh. During the show, they discussed matters of real estate in Nairobi and the alleged illegal activities that take place.
In the interview, Jerotich alluded that the Governor colludes with real estate developers to put up buildings that go above the required height in Nairobi. The hosts wanted the views of Jerotich regarding the recent Chinese Developers Association.
Sakaja is suing them for 100 million Kenya shillings. Sakaja has expressed that the interview has negatively affected his reputation and questioned his standing as a reputable citizen fit to lead the citizens of Nairobi.
The Governor indicated that the three hosts in the show failed to intervene when Jerotich made the remarks against him and thus also held them responsible as part of libel and slander. Pointing out that it misled the listeners.
According to the documents presented to the court by Sakaja’s legal team, it shared quotes from Jerotich that implied that the Chinese Developers Association and Sakaja openly broke the law without a care.
Previously in 2023, the Governor had taken legal actions against developers who had erected buildings above the legally permitted limit which is four floors.
